Testimonial: Chronic Neck Pain
January 23, 2009

In April of 2006, at the age of 25, I was fortunate enough to meet Anna Dolopo. A dear friend, who had never been to her, saw her card at Dr. Whelan’s office and suggested I go and see if acupuncture could help with my neck pain. I must tell you that I was not necessarily a believer in acupuncture. After much deliberation I figured, why not? It could only help.

The Issue
One night, four years earlier, I was fighting a head cold and decided to sleep with pillows propped under my neck to keep my nasal passage somewhat clear. The next morning I awoke with a pain in my neck like no other. I was unable to sit for more than a few minutes without crying out in pain. At times my pinkie and ring finger on my left hand often became tingly or numb.
I went to a physical therapist for months. He did a number of different exercises which seemed to lessen the pain, although it never went away. Finally, I had and MRI that revealed I had a slipped disc between my C-5 and C-6 vertebrae in my neck. Eventually I bought a Saunders Home Traction Unit so that I could put my neck in traction everyday…this helped to manage the pain and eventually I could sit for long periods of time.

The Solution
Skip forward to April 2006. I explained all of my neck history to Anna who basically said, “Come see me 3 times a week and I will hopefully be able to get rid of your neck pain.” Like many non-believers, I thought she was nuts! I was compliant but not expecting anything. I saw Anna 3 times a week for a couple of months, slowly dwindling down to a couple times a week and then once a week for a total of about a year. It only took a week or two for my neck pain to reduce by at least half. While I was seeing Anna regularly, very rarely did I ever feel neck pain. As of today I no longer use the traction unit and see her on occasion for a “tune up”. I am now a firm believer in acupuncture and will tell anyone who will listen that Anna is a great healer and we are all lucky to have her services.

Samantha Klassen

I am humbled by this testimonial. I owe my abilities to my teacher, Dr. Richard Tan, the founder of Dr. Tan’s Balance Method, based on the classical teachings of Chinese medicine. This is truly what I mean when I say, “Give acupuncture a real chance.” I don’t mean doing it less than 10 times or doing it randomly. I mean STICK WITH IT. It is 2009 and Samantha can actually say that she GRADUATED from her pain. I am sure that with stress and a long day’s work, she might feel her neck tension. However, now she knows to take care of it straight away before it ever goes back to chronic pain.
Acupuncture is THERAPY and this great testimonial is a fine example of what my work can do. When YOU are ready to completely get rid of the pain that you experience day and night, give me a call. You, too, can be a Samantha.
On a side note, Samantha started acupuncture with me during my first year of doing Dr. Tan’s Balance Method. Prior to 2006, I diligently practiced Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from 1999-February 2006, not to mention the six years (compacted into four) of schooling based almost completely on TCM. I still believe in TCM, but I am a converted Balance Method practitioner. Samantha and patients like her are the reason why.
Terrific books for people who have food allergies

“These books by popular food allergy author Linda Coss will give you the dairy-, egg-, and nut-free recipes you want and the life-saving food allergy management information you need.” -Linda Coss
If you have family like I do who have food allergies, then you must know the agony of what it is like to have to read all of the ingredients when it comes to ordering food at a restaurant or buying groceries. You might be the one with those food allergies. Linda Coss offers three books for children and adults with food allergies. Please check out her website and also watch her appearance on Daybreak OC! I am so impressed with these books. Her website will be on my links page by the end of this week. Thank you, Linda, for your insight and sharing your experiences with the world. I know that so many people are benefiting from your expertise and wisdom.

I have waited 11 years to say that. The last year I was able to state that was in 1997. The year of the OX is a very auspicious year for those of us oxen and for all people. This is a year when ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. Think of what an ox does. She endures and works through the worst types of weather. These are grim times for many people, but let us not forget the people who are actually capitalizing on the economy. If you didn’t know, there are plenty of people out there who are making good money due to this failing economy.
Great things happened for me from 1997-1998. It was my last year at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. I shined as an intern. Opportunities flooded through my gates. I expect more out of this year. As the year of the Rat came to an end, I actually have felt myself getting stronger. Whether it’s a placebo or not, I actually feel that I can take on many of our world’s challenges and help inspire others to do the same.
If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing,
you’re right!” -Henry Ford
We cannot sit back and wait for other people and organizations to make our lives better. All we need to do is believe, work and watch our hard work produce fruits. This is the year of the Earth Ox. As a Chinese medical practitioner, this is my interpretation of the Earth: the Earth is an element in Chinese medicine where all things happen. The Earth is the digestive system in Chinese medicine. I practice from a school of thought that no matter what is going on, if you strengthen the Earth, all harmony will begin. Think about it, if you can’t digest your food, you will start having some serious GI issues ranging from indigestion to Crohn’s disease.
The Earth is our center. Mother Earth is where we dwell. We must protect her and take care of her. I believe that the founders of Chinese medicine knew this and decided with great care to call our digestive system “Earth.” Since I was a student, I have taken great consideration the value of EACH patient’s digestive system. When Samantha came in for neck pain, I treated her digestive system. When I treat fertility issues, I treat the digestive system. When I help regular blood pressure, I treat the digestive system. When I help people during their times of cancer therapy, I treat the digestive system. I ALWAYS strengthen and harmonize the Earth because that is where the source of the problem can be most of the time. What we eat affects the EARTH. How we think affects the EARTH.
The Earth Year combined with the Ox year is a great start to change the negative energy that surfaces over many minds right now. Part of my work right now is to focus my intention on everyone I meet and have yet to meet on strengthening our Earth and creating prosperity in our lives. I hope that you join me in this celebration. Even if you do not believe in the Chinese zodiac, there is nothing wrong with wanting a better world – a better Earth.

If you did not receive the specials that I sent out by phone and you are interested, please call or text me at 619.341.4341. You probably will not see these specials for quite some time. I am booked tomorrow, so I am extending these specials into Wednesday.

On March 18, 2007, a 30-year old man came into my office with pain in his right knee and right hip. He had this pain for 7 years. He particularly felt his right knee after running. His IT band (ilio-tibial band), the muscle that runs from the hip to the knee) typically was tighter on the right side than on the left side. After the treatment that day, his pain was less. His leg felt more relaxed. His IT band felt less tight.

The patient shared with me that day how amazed he was with the results, especially at his right hip. We tested the results by having him do some exercises and movements that would normally cause the pain. The pain did not recur that day.

The patient did not need to return for further treatment.
