I came last minute for Anna’s treatment for labor induction. I was nearing 41 weeks and receiving pressure from my OB to induce. I wanted a natural birth and after Anna’s treatment I left her studio at 5pm on 8/24/2015 and went into labor at around 2am.  That night my baby was born at 7:30 8/25/2015 the next morning.  All natural, no epidural or chemical induction.

What an incredible experience I am so grateful for natural healers like Anna!

I went to see Anna on a recommendation from my Doula. I was 40 weeks pregnant and my OB wanted to induce me if I did not go into labor within one week. Since I was hoping for an unmedicated VBAC, I knew that I pretty much had to go into labor on my own to get the outcome I was hoping for.

I went to see Anna and not only did she talk to me about the goals I had for seeing her, we discussed my past birth experience and the importance of letting any negative energy go. She was so very kind and informative, and together we set the intention we hoped for, which was for me to go into labor on my own within one week. It was a tall order but Anna made me feel confidant that we could do it.

I saw her three days in a row, the first appointment was for an hour and the second and third were for about 1.5 hours. On the fourth day, I went into labor! I had the unmedicated VBAC I had hoped for and can’t help but feel that Anna absolutely helped to induce labor.

In addition, I loved going to her office! Her therapy dog was super calming, and when her daughters were there, they were adorable. Her treatment room was very comfortable and she played soothing music, which lulled me to sleep every time I was there. Any time there was a needle that needed adjusting, she was right there to fix it and checked in on a regular basis to make sure all was well.

My VERY highest regard, rating, and recommendation go to Anna! I am so very grateful to have found her!

My hairstylist told me how much Anna had helped relieve his pain -
so I had to check it out. Wow – though my severe hip pain hindered
my daily routine, 10 sessions with Anna completed removed my pain!

Combined with other therapeutic modalities, her acupuncture skills
are outstanding, her bedside manner is gentle and caring – and I can’t
say enough about how healing her facility is.

Woohoo! As good as it gets! Book an appointment right now on her website.
Don’t delay!

Thank you, Michael, for this wonderful Yelp review!

More natural labors!

From Susan, a local midwife.

After my client’s water broke with no labor, my first thought was Anna and acupuncture. M came in to see me with no labor and a baby still high and not engaged. She went to Anna’s office and even fell asleep during her appointment. Before returning home, I had her stop by just to check on her and the baby. Three hours had past and she came in with the baby’s head down in her pelvis and a few mild contractions. Labor started at 10pm and she delivered a few hours later at home, in the water just as she had wanted!

This patient’s appointment was around noon in our healing center. The needles were in this patient, M, for about 1-1.5 hours.  Anna used Dr. Tan’s Balance Method Acupuncture.  Congratulations on your healthy, happy baby, M!  I am so happy that you experienced your desired baby’s delivery.  Have fun raising that amazing and precious child!

From my patient, Stephanie.

After 42 hours of total labor, 8 of which was hard labor and 15 minutes of pushing – Stella Rose was born at 3:14 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2014.

She is 6 lbs 8.5 oz and 20 inches of content, peace and joy. Already such a happy baby with a pleasant disposition. I can’t wait for you to meet her!

Here’s a sneak peek, from when we got back home from the birth center late Saturday morning…

Thank you so very much for all your work and dedication… There is no doubt in my mind of the great impact you and your expertise had on ensuring the birth of our baby girl was 100% natural, just like we hoped and dreamed!  THANK YOU!!!

Thank you, Stephanie, for your wonderful words of kindness!  I appreciate the time that your husband and you spent with me during a very critical time of your baby’s soon-to-be arrival.  I am so grateful and happy that you experienced a wonderful birth.  May you guys have a fabulous time raising this precious angel.

We will be focusing on ACCEPTING CHANGE in our lives.

Fear, Stress, Joy, Sadness will also be discussed.

Here’s Angilynn and Anais from this weekend’s solo performance.

People who perform in public have experienced a variety of emotions before, during and after their live events. However, a person doesn’t have to be live performer to deal with uncomfortable emotions being in front of people.  Some people have anxiety just being in public.  They prefer to stay home and not interact with people they don’t know or even people they do know. Some people experience emotional discomfort if they have to do anything outside of their comfort zones.

Change in a person’s life can be very difficult to deal with.  New neuropathways start being created in the brain.  This change in a person’s brain can cause hormonal changes, which cause the person to have unpleasant feelings.  Resistance to change is generally what most people experience, especially during the initial stage of a big change.

Embrace the changes in your life.  During my second live training this Friday, I will be sharing some current and previous stories in my own life on how I’ve been able to embrace the wanted and unwanted changes in my life and how I always benefitted from those life experiences.  When I allowed them to, the changes in my life always created a better path for me, thus a better path for my family.

If you have ever enjoyed our private consultations and your physical, emotional and mental well being benefitted from our talks and treatments, you will enjoy my second live training this Friday.  I hope to see you there!

Thank you, Jasmin, for sharing the incredible talents of your many students!

I dedicate the pictures above to the women that I am currently treating for fertility.  Please stay positive.  Keep your goals in front of you and keep working on yourselves physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Stay true to your desires.

For those of you who are mamas because of our work together using the POWERS of Chinese medine to have become mothers NATURALLY, please send me your babies’ printed pictures.  Their pictures on our walls give strength and hope to so many women who want nothing more than to be mommies like us.

I worked 10 years on my health before I tried becoming pregnant.  That’s not feasible for most women because of time constraints and levels of patience.  However, if you stay true to your health and stay as patient as possible, miracles do happen.  You’re looking at the two biggest miracles of my life.  My periods were VERY different in 1994.  They became PERFECT in 1996.  When I was finally ready to grow a family in 2003, the magic easily happened and again in 2009.  My children were born in 2004 and 2010 when I was 30 and 36, respectively.  I achieved natural pregnancies by achieving a perfect period and perfect health.

Perfect menses:

28-32 day cycle

3-5 day period

No PMS

No clots

Bright red blood

No symptoms of ANYTHING before/during/after: physical or emotional

I also achieved total wellness in patterns such as sleeping, skin, mental health, bowel movements, digestion, cardiovascular, etc.  I also do not suffer from pain and, if I do, I treat myself instantly and frequently until the symptoms are all gone.

Congratulations to LS, my current patient who is in her second trimester and to AL who just delivered her second baby a few months ago.  Both patients are 40 years old.  LS was treated with only acupuncture. AL was treated only with herbs being that she lives in San Diego.

Thank you for your trust, Southern California!

Love and light,

Anna

Look no further, Anna is who you want to go to for acupuncture. Not only is she an expert at her craft, but she genuinely wants to help you “graduate” from your pain/issue. It is clear helping people is not only her passion, but her gift.

I had suffered from tendonitis in the past and where time off of work, physical, and occupational therapy failed me, acupuncture worked quickly and permanently. The practitioners however, didn’t leave such a great impression. So when my husband and I decided we wanted to start a family, I knew that I wanted to do acupuncture but didn’t know who to trust with such a sensitive issue.

A good friend recommended Anna. She received regular treatments and got pregnant fairly quickly although her doctor had told her she wasn’t ovulating and recommended fertility treatments. She emphasized Anna’s sincere desire to help and recommended I go to her website and read the case studies and watch the videos. I couldn’t believe the wealth of information on the website and how comprehensive her work was! This convinced me to give Anna a try.

At the time I was 34 and by western standards on the brink of “high risk.” After my initial consultation Anna had put all of my fears to rest. I was actually excited about the journey to motherhood instead of fearful. I began regular treatments 2-3 times a week and looked forward to each one. I had never felt better in my life. I was sleeping better and had great energy. Long story short, I became pregnant after trying for 1 month!

Soon after, morning sickness hit. I suffered from severe nausea and again looked to Anna for relief. I continued my regular treatments and the symptoms subsided to a manageable level. As my pregnancy progressed she treated me for the typical issues: fatigue, back pain, heartburn, etc. At 9 months, I got a severe cold and acupuncture again came to my rescue as I couldn’t take any medication. Just one week later, my baby came! Labor was fairly easy and I healed very quickly as Anna said I would. Acupuncture kept me in great shape both physically and mentally.

I have since recommended Anna to numerous people and endorse her work completely. In fact, she is the first person I will go to with a medical issue. I don’t entirely understand how acupuncture works, but it DOES WORK! Give her a try. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

LABOR AND DELIVERY

I was recently pregnant with fraternal twins and my doctors told me on a Friday that I would need to be induced the following Wednesday, the day I would reach 37 weeks. This was a precautionary move, as we had all just learned that I had cholestasis, a somewhat rare liver disease that appears only during pregnancy. My goal from the beginning of my pregnancy was to deliver vaginally, which my doctors thankfully supported. I also planned to get an epidural, but really wanted to avoid other interventions and medications, such as Pitocin. I knew that induction would involve Pitocin to get my labor started, and from what I had read and heard, this often creates intense contractions and sometimes leads to emergency cesarean births. I had been meditating and visualizing about my delivery for months, and induction was certainly not part of the “plan.”  My husband and I immediately started researching ways to “self-induce,” and we decided to try it all!  After over two months of bed rest, it felt incredible to get out and walk. I drank raspberry leaf tea, ate pineapple, had intercourse, got a reflexology massage, and bounced on a birthing ball, but nothing happened. The days passed and we started to get nervous. I’d always wanted to try acupuncture, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. I had heard that it could induce labor, so I was eager to try it. Courtney from OC Midwifery referred me to Anna Dolopo, and I called her Tuesday morning. (Talk about ‘down to the wire’! This was the day before my scheduled induction.) Although she was booked all day, Anna carved out time at 5 pm on Tuesday afternoon to come in and give me a treatment. Her office was welcoming and comfortable and Anna was very warm and professional. I immediately felt at ease, and her confidence in the effectiveness of her treatments made me feel even more confident that this would work. We all had a good feeling about it. Anna was admittedly assertive in her approach, since we didn’t have much time. After she strategically placed the needles, I reclined in a comfy chair and let them do their magic. I remember feeling light and weightless at one point and I was drifting off with a floating, half-asleep feeling. At the end of the treatment, Anna removed the needles and my husband and I headed home. We climbed into bed that night, hospital bags packed, resigning ourselves to the fact that we’d just go through with the induction in the morning, and at midnight my water broke! We checked into the hospital at 1:30 am, and after laboring on my own for four hours and eventually getting an epidural, I successfully gave birth vaginally to our beautiful baby boy and girl at 11:11 and 11:15 the following morning. We are confident that Anna’s acupuncture work lead to this happy ending of our birth story. Thank you Anna!

Acupuncture in Pregnancy & Childbirth

Pregnancy is an amazing time in a woman’s life. Many women report feeling healthier than they have ever felt before; however, the physical growth of the baby and changes in hormone levels can bring about pain, discomfort and a variety of health problems.

Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can provide a safe, effective alternative for many of the health complications that may arise before, during and after pregnancy. A growing number of women are choosing acupuncture to use throughout their pregnancy and as an optional treatment for an overdue or difficult labor.

Planning for a Healthy Baby

Healthy parents produce healthy babies. With acupuncture and Oriental medicine, parents can improve their health to create the most optimal environment for their unborn child. In addition to their ability to strengthen, support, and balance overall health and well-being, acupuncture and Oriental medicine are an effective treatment for regulating menstruation and hormone levels, reducing stress and addressing any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns that a woman may have.

Acupuncture during Pregnancy

Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can play a vital role in the comfort of a pregnant woman. There is strong evidence to support that acupuncture is highly effective at treating some of the most common problems experienced during pregnancy including morning sickness, heartburn, insomnia, water retention and sciatica.

Here is a list of some of the problems that an acupuncturist often treats during pregnancy:

    * Nausea and Vomiting
    * Heartburn
    * Constipation
    * Hemorrhoids
    * Edema and Swelling
    * Urinary Tract Infection
    * Pelvic Pain
    * Neck and Back Pain
    * Sciatica
    * Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
    * Leg Cramps
    * Fatigue and Exhaustion
    * Insomnia
    * Anxiety and Depression

Acupuncture for Childbirth

While there are acupuncture points that can provide natural pain relief during labor, acupuncture is more commonly used to induce labor. There are several points that stimulate contractions and influence cervical ripening. There is also an acupuncture point that has been found to turn a breech baby.

Acupuncture Postpartum

Many women feel depleted after the birth experience. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help the transition of those first few months after birth to ensure a quick recovery. Postpartum care focuses on the physical, emotional and psychological recovery of the mother from the effects of pregnancy and labor, as well as encouraging breast feeding.

Here are some of the postpartum disorders that can be treated with acupuncture:

    * Fatigue
    * Postpartum Depression
    * Mastitis
    * Insufficient or Excessive Lactation
    * Post Operative Healing
    * Night Sweats

If you would like to know more how acupuncture and Oriental medicine ease discomfort and facilitate pregnancy, please call for more information.

UB 67 for Turning Breech Babies

An acupuncture point on the small toe of the foot (Urinary Bladder 67) has been found to effectively revolve fetuses in breech presentation.

In an Italian study, 240 women at 33-35 weeks of gestation carrying a fetus in breech presentation were randomized to receive acupuncture plus moxibustion (an herb used to apply heat to an acupuncture point) or to be assigned to the observation group. At delivery, the proportion of babies that had turned from breech position to vertex (head-down) position was 53.6 % in the group treated with acupuncture while the proportion of babies that had turned from breech position to vertex position in the observation group was 36.7%.

Manage Your Reproductive Health with Acupuncture

Oriental medicine has a long history when it comes to enhancing reproductive health and fertility for both men and women. In fact, evidence that acupuncture and herbal medicine have been used to aid fertility can be found in early medical literature dating back to 3 AD.

Statistics state that one in five couples over the age of 30 have difficulty conceiving after one year of trying. Many of these couples are turning to acupuncture and Oriental medicine for a safe, effective and natural solution to have a healthy baby.

Fertility treatments were first recorded by Zhang Zhong Jing, a famous physician from the Han Dynasty, in his discussion of diseases in women in the Jin Gui Yao Lue or Essentials of the Golden Cabinet.

According to the principles of Oriental medicine, a person’s health is determined by the quality of Qi, the vital life energy, and blood circulating through the body. When Qi and blood are circulating properly, the body is properly nourished and functioning optimally which, in turn, enhances fertility.

Researchers have confirmed the benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine for:

    * regulating the menstrual cycle
    * improving sperm count and motility
    * reducing stress and anxiety associated with infertility
    * normalizing hormone and endocrine systems
    * improving blood flow in the uterus
    * decreasing the chance of miscarriage
    * increasing the chance of pregnancy for women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF)

Fertility treatment approaches can vary from person to person, but are usually scheduled for at least three consecutive cycles (twelve weeks). Treatments can include acupuncture, customized herbal therapy, stress reduction and dietary counseling.

If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulties with their reproductive health please call to see how acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Gynecological conditions including premenstrual syndrome (PMS), fibroids, endometriosis, menopause and infertility are some of the problems treated most successfully by acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Oriental medicine has long recognized that health and vitality can be sustained over a woman’s lifetime by restoring balance within the body and supporting the natural production of essential hormones.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Premenstrual syndrome covers a broad spectrum that can include emotional symptoms such as depression, irritability, sadness, anxiety, or poor concentration and can also include physical symptoms, such as breast tenderness, a change in bowel habits, acne, or loss of libido. Symptoms can change from month to month and vary widely in terms of severity. Imbalances can arise from a variety of factors, including poor diet, too much work, physical or emotional trauma, constitutionally weak Qi (energy) or stress.

In Oriental medicine, the liver is considered responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (life force) throughout the body and for smoothing our emotions. When the liver’s function of moving Qi is disrupted, Qi can become stuck. This is referred to as Liver Qi Stagnation and is commonly associated with PMS. In addition to irritability and moodiness, signs and symptoms may include: distending pain in the area below the ribs, stuffiness of the chest, sighing, abdominal distention, nausea, sour regurgitation, belching, diarrhea or constipation, feeling of a lump in the throat, irregular periods, painful periods and distention of the breasts prior to periods.

If you or someone you know is struggling with symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome call today to see how acupuncture can help!

Male Reproductive Health

Oriental medicine can help treat various male disorders. As men age a decrease in the function of male reproductive organs occurs and they experience andropause, or male menopause. Andropause differs from menopause as there is not a dramatic or marked physiological change.

Unlike the more dramatic reproductive hormone plunge that occurs in women during menopause, changes in men occur gradually over a period of many years.

Some male reproductive health conditions that acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help include:

    * premature ejaculation
    * low sperm count
    * diminished motility
    * impotence
    * hernias
    * testicular pain
    * prostatitis
    * male infertility
    * andropause

If you or someone you know is struggling with symptoms associated with any of these conditions, call today!

Prostate Health

The prostate is prone to enlargement and inflammation as men age, affecting about half of men in their sixties and up to ninety percent of men as they approach their seventies and eighties. If left untreated, benign prostate gland enlargement, which presents with symptoms such as frequent nighttime urination, painful urination, and difficult urination, can lead to more serious conditions such as prostate cancer, urinary tract infections, bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones, and incontinence.

Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can be used to treat prostate problems to relieve the urinary symptoms and prevent more serious conditions from occurring. The few studies completed on acupuncture and prostatitis show positive results with participants noticing a marked improvement in their quality of life, a decrease in urinary difficulties and an increase in urinary function.

Call today to see how acupuncture can improve your prostate health!

Menopause

Menopause is a transitional period marking the cessation of ovulation in a woman’s body. Symptoms are brought on as a woman’s body tries to adapt to decreasing amounts of estrogen. Varying from mild to severe, symptoms can include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, memory loss, dryness, headaches, joint pain and weight gain.

With its deep understanding of the female body, Oriental medicine has always addressed the special needs of women throughout their lives. Menopause, in particular, is an area in which Oriental medicine shines.

Acupuncture and Oriental medicine have the ability to detect energetic changes that occur in the body and quickly relieve uncomfortable symptoms that accompany the onset of menopause.

Oriental medicine does not recognize menopause as a particular syndrome and treats symptoms unique to each individual using a variety of techniques to restore imbalances found in the body.

I have had ongoing issues after a car accident and needed additional help beyond traditional physical therapy.

I was skeptical, but went in open minded and Anna was very patient and listened to all my issues.  It soon became not just about my specific health issues, but about me all around, who I am and what I wanted to get out of seeing her.

Her office is open and very much for those who don’t mind being around other patients, but she focuses on you.  You very much feel she is doing this for you and it’s not about HER.  After seeing Anna, I very much felt that she wanted to see me get better, to “graduate.”  It was not about having me need to see her forever.

And with Anna, how can you not want to say with a smile that she is warm and sincere and believes in what she does.  It is all about your comfort.  Do not be afraid to say you are not comfortable, you want to move, you need this or you need that.  I felt empowered and that I had a voice in my treatment.

And yes, I noticed a difference.

But what has been most frustrating is that I had to stop going because my insurance does not cover her and I noticed how much she was helping me.  As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.  I now see even more how much I was improving.

I highly recommend Anna, she will listen to you and make your needs her priority.  She will make your a believer.

Ok, I’ve been trying to post this earlier, but somehow my laziness got the best of me. I have been to quite a few acupuncturists in my life and never have I seen an apparent  difference or improvement even with multiple long-term treatments. Anna was by far the most impressive acupuncturist I’ve experienced and I am not exaggerating by saying this. I normally don’t leave reviews for lots of places to start with.

I went in to see Anna last November when I was late with my baby and all the walking and acupressure wasn’t helping with the progress. My first one took forever to progress and my second one was already 5 days late when I went in for an induction acupuncture. Honestly, I was skeptical but was desperate enough to try anything. Somehow I found out about Anna and this has been the best blessing for our family during this childbirth.

I could see she was really busy with loads of patients going in and out, and it seems she was super attentive to every single one of them. Initially, I thought she was too distracted to pay attention to my case, but once she sat down, she was compassionate, took attention to details, and in a way she had me process my hidden fear from the previous childbirth experience which might have been the most important thing I had to do before the second one’s arrival.

As much as I wished to keep things as natural as possible, Anna assured me the treatment would not affect things unless the baby was ready to progress.

With all the acupuncture treatments I’ve been to, I still get uncomfortable each time I see the needles. She explained step by step as she placed each needle and made it as comfortable as it could get. I was offered a comfy eye pillow and I spent 45 minutes laying there feeling the change in my body, immediate progress, I could literally feel my pelvis bone opening wider and the baby moving lower! It was the weirdest experience ever!

After the treatment, the progress continued and I was in transition by the time we made it home! My appointment with Anna was at 8 pm, my baby arrive at 3 am in the morning! Thank you, Anna! It was the most pleasant experience ever and I wish I shared it with everyone earlier. I’m glad I took note of others’ recommendations and I plan to visit her with any other treatments in the future! Especially if you are late in childbirth and wish to experience your childbirth as natural as possible, I’d give her a visit indeed. One thing I’d do differently is, probably see her earlier in the pregnancy instead of last-minute once the baby’s late.

About the ARTIST

I’ve been making mother goddesses and fertility figures for several years and have found the research and process to be both deeply moving and fascinating. As an art history graduate with an interest in prehistoric and ancient art many of my figurines are based on original pieces that I’ve researched and seen in museums. All my figurines are hand sculpted, one of a kind pieces. They represent almost every culture in the world; including Europe, Persia, China, Japan, South America, and Africa. These prehistoric sculptures have also inspired me to create my own original pieces that are interpretations of those produced in various cultures throughout history. I’ve made hundreds of various types and I have a great deal of fondness for all of them, even the rather bizarre and alien looking ones. I never tire of making mother goddesses and am always looking for new sources of inspiration.
