3rd Review:

Acupuncture Experience at Elements in Harmony

3/11/2016  Updated review

150 check-ins

This is my third review of Anna’s amazing talents as an acupuncturist and healer.

I’ve been a patient of Elements in Harmony Acupuncture for over 6 years.  When I first started, I had no expectation of continuing treatment beyond a few sessions.  At the time, I had limited experience with “alternative methods” and I didn’t realize that acupuncture could help ALL issues of body, mind, and spirit.  To note, when I started seeing Anna, I was a full-time graduate student also working full-time, making a measly $32k/yr, living 40+ miles away from Laguna Hills.  My point: I was broke, it took effort and money to get to my appointments, and I was crazy stressed out constantly.

What have I learned?  That Anna has a talent shared by very few on this planet.  I say this as  the granddaughter of a highly-respected M.D. and as someone with exceptionally high standards.  Anna’s dedication to my health and to the health of all her patients is second to none.  She is both professional and friendly; she is relatable and open.  I give heartfelt credit to Anna for helping me through physical issues and emotional matters, as well as helping me develop into a more authentic “me.”  Thank you, thank you, thank you, Anna!

Here are a few things from one of my previous reviews that I suggest to any acupuncture newbie:

Needles.  I know, I know – you hate needles.  I do, too.  (Yes, I’m serious!)  I’m here to tell you that acupuncture doesn’t hurt.  Sure, one needle out of a hundred may sting a bit – but it’s NOTHING like getting a shot.  Injection needles are significantly larger and most of the pain is from the fluid, itself, being injected.  If you’re truthfully scared, ask Anna to let you try a single needle before you buy a session.  She’ll give you some time to try it out – she’s cool like that.

Community sessions. You’ll be in a large room with a handful of other people.  Soft music helps drown out any noise created by folks coming or going.  You also have the option to wear ear-buds and listen quietly to your own tunes.  Either way, be prepared to meditate or sleep for your time in treatment.  Keep in mind, this is very typical of acupuncture — it’s what you’d find in China.

Privacy. Many acupuncturists who offer community sessions usually don’t have a private space where you can share your medical and personal concerns.  Anna has a private office where she sees patients before treatment.  You are able to discuss your issues without other people knowing your business.

Cost. I’ve done research on acupuncture prices and Anna is significantly less costly than other practitioners.  She also offers deals for regular patients.  Obviously acupuncture is an investment, but it’s worth the long-term pay-off.

Ongoing learning. Every time I visit, Anna tells me about some new thing she’s learned.  Whether it’s from a book she’s been reading, a conference she attended, or some breakthrough in alternative medicine, Anna is a true healer – constantly evaluating her current methods and searching for further information to help those who trust her with their care.

If Western medicine can’t (or won’t) help, if you’re sick of being sick, or if you just want better peace of mind, give Anna a try!

Anna is everything a health professional should be. She is passionate, thoughtful, and educated. I leave her office not only feeling relaxed, but rather empowered. I am being treated for both Multiple Sclerosis and Trigeminal Nueralgia. With random and intermittent pain daily, Anna has been a steady breath of fresh air for the last two years of being diagnosed. I am so grateful that she is in my life and a part of my healing journey. Thank you for being yourself and helping so many people reach their full potential on a daily basis. I consider Anna a friend, healer, and mentor. Thank you. You are the best!

I have been a patient of Anna Dolopo for 10 years and have always been treated with her happy pleasant disposition and very professional manner. She has helped me manage my chronic pain for my neck and lower back, so I did not myself have to take any type of pain prescriptions. She also has helped prepare me for dental surgeries and abdominal surgery and I did not have to take any narcotic pain medication due to the treatments prior to my surgery. She has also helped me manage my pain for chronic arthritis and menopause. I have gone to many different types of acupuncturists since 1979 and I find Anna and the Balance method she has trained many years for to be the most effective type.

Anna is fantastic. I went in last month with weakness in my right leg. After two treatments I could put weight on that leg again. I always feel very comfortable at facility. I am so very happy I found her.

I have been coming to Anna off and on for the past two years. She is professional, friendly and always very accommodating. I have taken my husband and he also has enjoyed his experience. The one thing I would recommend is that you can’t just go once and expect a quick change.  It does take a handful of seasons to get completely rid of whatever ails you.

Anna has been a necessary and important healer in my quest to heal my brain. I was diagnosed in 2011 with a neurological disease that left me frightened and worried about living my life to my fullest abilities. When I go to see Anna we deal with a range of symptoms. Anywhere from essential, and non essential tremors, ataxia, as well as depression, and maximizing energy levels. Every time I go see Anna I am am met with kindness, understanding, and something that you don’t see so much anymore… CARE!. Anna is not dismissive or impatient. She has passion for what she does. That is very important to me.

My quality of life is improving and with Elements In Harmony on my team. I look forward to being able to play with my grandkids and be as active as I want to be. As of today my neurologist shows no sign of progression in degeneration since first MRI. I like to call her Anna “real deal” Dolopo!!!!!!

This review is both long in length and long overdue as I’ve been seeing Anna on-and-off since 2009, and she has had a significant positive impact on my life in our time together. She has helped me manage my stress levels and improve both my sleep and immune system, but perhaps the most significant impact she’s had on my health is in the work she’s done on my digestive system. She weaned me off Nexium over the course of 6 months, which I had been taking for 5 years for GERD (if you want to know more about this, I wrote a rather lengthy testimonial that you can find on her website). She is practically a superhero as far as I’m concerned.

Some things you should know about her, her practice, and what to expect:

In short, Anna is an amazing person. She’s kind, intelligent, compassionate, and has a wonderful outlook on life. She treats everyone with respect and truly wants to help her patients. Because she wants to help you, she needs to know more about you. Your first visit will require some paperwork, some face-time with Anna, and a few more dollars than a normal visit (because time = money, duh). She will tell you what to expect during your treatment, the type of results you should expect to see, and isn’t quick to “diagnose” you with a medical condition of any kind – she listens to you and gets to work treating your symptoms.

On the subject of time and money, Anna offers multiple appointment options to her (non-first-timer) patients. She offers day, evening, and occasionally weekend hours (which can vary with her schedule because she’s also a super mom, but it’s cool because her availability is always posted on her website). You can make an appointment with or without a consultation; the latter will save you a little time and money, but I’m partial to talking to her in private beforehand. She’s a good listener, and I find that it only helps her know more about what’s going on in my life so she can better help me. She offers package deals to ongoing patients as well, so if you decide to stick around for a while, you can save some money that way. Whether you opt for a consultation or not/package deal or not, you should typically expect to be on the table for over an hour. The price you pay is worth every penny for the amount of time you get. Anna lets your body decide when you’re done (you will know), so she never rushes you out the door. Consider it a nice time to relax, treatyoself, and take a nap (more on napping with needles in your body shortly).

The atmosphere is a community one, and she offers heated/unheated massage tables, recliners, and inversion-type chairs to meet your individual physical needs and preferences (with fuzzy blankets and hot packs to boot). Community treatments mean more available appointment times and also help keep costs down so she can treat more than one person at a time (win). Her patients respect the space and stay fairly quiet, but there is always some low-volume music to help drown out some of the ambient noise. You might think community treatments lack privacy, but when your needles are primarily only going in your distal extremities, it’s really no big deal. Yes, you read that correctly…needles typically only go from your knees to your toes, from your elbows to your fingers, and in your head. The method of acupuncture Anna practices is different from many other acupuncturists in that the needles are typically not applied locally if you’re experiencing pain. The benefits are experienced locally, however (I told you she was a superhero), as well as throughout your body (improved sleep, relaxation, immunity, etc.). I promise. Read all her reviews!

As I mentioned above, you will likely fall asleep with needles in your body. The number of needles you get depends on what ails you, but they are EXTREMELY small needles and generally don’t hurt. If you’ve never experienced acupuncture before, you will feel a quick sting when a needle is inserted that fades within a second or two, and then you no longer feel them (as long as you don’t move around). It sounds crazy, but once the needles are in, your body begins to relax and staying still is actually very easy (especially since many patients fall asleep…sometimes they snore. It happens. If you don’t like it, bring earplugs).

These are the highlights, but Anna will explain all this to you up front. She’s honest and open with her patients, and if you don’t see results, she will tell you to stop coming. Yes, you read that correctly. She doesn’t sit idly by taking your money if your time together isn’t beneficial. At one point, she and I had a chat about my anxiety levels that weren’t improving as much as she liked, and she urged me to dig deeper to find out the root of the problem before coming back. She’s truly changed my life. Please read the rest of her reviews… I hope you see that she’s incredibly skilled and trust her to help you too!

I’ve been coming to Anna for a few years for anything ranging from a sore shoulder playing golf, back strain from yoga/work, wrist injuries from mountain biking to hamstring pulls lifting weights. I was a bit skeptical of Anna’s method at first because I was more accustomed to having needles placed on my problem areas; however, she’s proved to me time and again that it works. Like any medicine, Eastern, Western or otherwise, a positive outlook will take you a long ways in getting healed.

None of this would matter if Anna wasn’t as professional or personable as she is. I feel that Anna is personally vested not only in my best interests, but in the well being of others as well. And for that I am grateful and will continue to seek her expertise.

I am so lucky to have Anna as my doctor.  I found her on Yelp while I was suffering from various pain over my body couple years ago and I have been with her ever since.  Anna is caring from the bottom of her heart and genuine to everyone.  She is highly professional, punctual and always meet me with a BIG HUG!  Her non-invasive acupuncture method heals like a miracle and often makes more than 50% of improvement in one visit.

She treats her patients with her whole heart and only wants the best for them.  She takes time to understand your problems and strives to find the root cause.  She not only helps me to deal with physical pain using acupuncture needles (which is really non-invasive and you often do not feel them), she also supports me emotionally throughout various stressful situations which I am extremely grateful to.  She goes extra miles for her patients because she cares and takes pride in what she does.  That is priceless.

I like her community room treatment environment.  You are in a room with other motivated people who only want the best for their lives, peacefully receive treatments and enjoy some rest at the same time with relaxing light background music.  The treatment beds are always clean and warm.  She covers you with soft blankets and making sure you are 100% comfortable.  Her place is my restful retreat in this busy world – a time to slow down and relax your mind & soul.

With all the above, she charges a minimum fee and often offers extended treatment time & discount packages for loyal customers.  I have done acupuncture in other places before and her cost is at the very reasonable lower end.

I would recommend Anna to anyone who are seeking Chinese style acupuncture treatments.  You will appreciate what Anna can do for you!

Anna is extremely gifted acupuncturist.  She has helped me with stress, fertility, inducing labor and acute muscle pain.  I’ve been to other acupuncturist but few are as effective as Anna.

On a personal level, she is caring and considerate.  She takes her time and does her job right.  I’ve recommended Anna to family and friends.

Finally, the community acupuncture setting is comfortable and cozy.  She always has warm blankets, heated beds, heated stomach pads, or eye covers to make your treatment even better.

I highly recommend Anna and her acupuncture.

Anna worked miracles on both my husband and me. My midwife highly recommended her when in my early pregnancy because of all day ‘morning sickness’ and utter exhaustion, and I continued to see her weekly to help with depression, anxiety, back pain and other  pregnancy related issues. She also helped me keep my blood pressure in check in those last weeks, so that I could go on to have the home birth I wanted. I haven’t been back in since having my baby girl, but to be honest I haven’t needed to because the back pain, anxiety and depression hasn’t come back!

After my husband saw my great results he decided to give it a try for the back pain he had struggled with for 10+ years. Needless to say, she worked her magic on him as well and after just 6 or 7 treatments his back no long hurts!

I’m actually looking forward to getting pregnant again because I know that Anna will keep me feeling good throughout.

PAIN FROM AIKIDO

This review is long overdue; still I will try to keep it short and simple. I have tried “traditional” acupuncture with great success but, after having several people sing her praises, I went to see Anna.

Her method, I think is called the Balance Method, is a little bit different because needles go only in the “extremities” so lower arms, lower legs, and head. These areas are “poked” in different ways according to your situation but, regardless of where or what it may be, you will never see needles going anywhere else.

Anna has cured a chronic pain I was dealing with for years, she helps me with pain management and various inflammations when I train a bit too much in Aikido, she has helped me numerous times with my stress…. and I have sent many of my friends to see her for no other reason that she has helped many where others have failed (including my husband!).

Anna cares, she always makes you feel welcome, and she makes time for you even if she has a full house. I follow her practice on Facebook for her awesome inspirational and thought-provoking videos and I would recommend even just doing that if needles aren’t quite your thing… But I am telling you, Anna is truly the best and I now only see her.

TIPS: Bring headphones. Whether you are in the open room or in the side room, the sessions can be quite lengthy and listening to a book or some of your own music (or book) can help… THAT SAID, you will feel as if time flies when you are there and won’t even believe it has been that long.

There’s a reason I’ve continued to see Anna Dolopo LAc for the last 10+ years (and now I even travel 1-2 hours from LA to get to her). She has always made a positive impact in my life, and my physical and emotional health. She has treated me for back pain (as a long-term result of four fractured vertebrae in a car accident), a pinched nerve (which never once returned), female issues (which sometime required her Chinese herb expertise), anxiety and so much more. I trust her entirely, and if I question whether to use traditional or nontraditional medicine, she’ll work with me to set a plan for either route. I’ve been seeing Anna for so many years and we’ve both seen life’s hurdles and miracles during that time, so beyond a healer for me, I consider her a friend. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer anyone looking for physical or emotional healing to Anna!

How do I explain why I get acupuncture?

Because it works. My answer really is that simple, acupuncture works.

OK walking into an office and knowing I am wiling to be stuck with needles just seems weird, I totally agree. Why go? Because it works.

You probably won’t believe me, you think what you have can’t be helped through acupuncture. I used to think the same way and learned acupuncture can help me and probably can help you as well.

I am not going to list the different issues over the years Anna at Elements in Harmony has fixed, you can read plenty of those on her website and in other Yelp reviews. I am just going to admit, it works. I know you still don’t believe me, neither did I before going to see Anna. I told her as much at my first treatment and she just smiled and said give it a try That was 7 years ago and I see Anna from time to time when one issue or another pops up in my life.

Why go to Elements in Harmony and not somewhere else? Anna is a gifted healer who understands how bodies work and how acupuncture will work on a body. I am amazed at some of the stories i hear (not from Anna) but other patients in the waiting room about how Anna used acupuncture to help a body heal.

The most common question I get asked (besides do the needles hurt) is how can I be in a room with other people. . I think of all the types of community treatments out there for dialysis or cancer treatments and realize this really is not so different, people in a room being treated. We are all there for the same reason, to get healthy and people respect each other and their space.

….about the needles; yes one or two hurts at times, Anna apologizes if the needle going in hurts (and she means it) but 98% of the time, i don’t even realize where she is putting the needle.

Don’t believe me; go give it a try yourself. If you see me there; ask what I am there for, I don’t mind sharing. smile emoticon

Simply put, acupuncture works.

I have been a patient of Anna’s for 6+ Years, she has treated me for a number of different aliments. In every instance the results were OUTSTANDING, and I often wish I could make more time to spend on her table.

Anna is the best, plain and simple. I initially went to see her for my Challenging Pregnancy, she managed to alleviate my ALL DAY Sickness so I could gain some much needed weight, she managed the leg cramps, the insomnia, the stress, and best of all – I had a scheduled a C-Section which she prepared my body for – I left the hospital 1 day early and I never needed anything more than an ibuprofen on day 2. I was running up and down stairs when I got home and never had any issues at all – WHAT A GIFT to have those precious beginning moments to spend with my daughter PAIN FREE.

She has treated me for headaches, shoulder aches, and knee pain – all of these I get tremendous results and after a couple of sessions I couldn’t believe how much better I felt.

She has keep me healthy when I travel and when the rest of my family is sick; more recently I was on and off planes during the Holiday season and I went to see Anna – Before and After my traveling and I didn’t get sick.

Because I have been her patient for so long – I often forget how amazing she is. She know my Energy better than I do. She aligns me so that I function as a BETTER me. Now if anything feels wrong she is the person I visit.

The best thing about her place is that she is more than just your doctor, she is my friend. She spends almost as much time treating me as she does teaching me how I can be a better me, or how to help my daughter when she is not feeling well with homeopathic treatments.

If you’re hesitant about acupuncture, Anna and Elements in Harmony is by far the best place to go. Anna will make you feel totally comfortable and relaxed, plus you’ll walk away more knowledgeable!

I approached acupuncture with skepticism. I didn’t “believe” it could really work. But I found myself in a situation where I really didn’t want to use medication. I was 40 weeks pregnant and I didn’t want to be medically induced. So I went to Anna. After one session I had my child the next afternoon!……but I still didn’t “fully” believe. I mean, maybe it was a fluke?

I then developed a bad case of grinding my teeth during sleep. I had to wear an uncomfortable mouth guard, had daily headaches and jaw pain. Again, I didn’t want to use prescribed medicines to “relax” “calm down” or “sleep deeper”. I went in for 3 treatments in a one week span (an aggressive schedule for me). I slept amazingly! My anxiety reduced by 80%! I didn’t need a mouth guard! The treatments felt AMAZING – I left feeling like I was walking in bliss every time I left her treatment center! After that I was a true BELIEVER! I now use Elements in Harmony for my overall general health maintenance. I have seen Anna to help with various health issues/illnesses/injuries throughout the past 6 years. She has helped me with:

-anxiety
-low energy
-back pain/ inflammation
-flu
-digestive issues
-PMS
-insomnia
-pregnancy related issues

I also love her online scheduling system. I have a hectic life and it allows me to book the day of if I need to. She is extremely accommodating, she always works with me on last minute bookings, which is a HUGE bonus from having a Community Healing room.

Honestly, I can’t wait to go again – it just adds so much balance to my busy life – I know I’ll always leave saying “AHHHHHHHHHH”

This is my 2nd review, I’ve been coming to Anna for over 3 years now. She worked wonders for me. I was of course skeptical at first of the benefits of acupuncture, but I got amazing results from just a few sessions. I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to have babies because I wasn’t ovulating or having periods. With only a month of a couple sessions a week, I now have regular periods every month. Now I love to go to Anna just to see her, and have a relaxing balancing nap. She helps me to relive stress, which has made my skin look better also. Any time I have a cold or feel something coming on, she fixes it right away! She is a miracle worker!
8/14/2013  Previous review Anna is a dedicated successful healer for women with hormonal imbalance issues. I suffered from having irregular periods for the past 2.5 years after I decided to go off of be birth control pill Yaz, and then BeYaz. I had tried many things such as bio identical hormone remedies etc. and nothing helped. Since I’ve been going to Anna, I was really aggressive with the acupuncture in the beginning, I’ve had 4 full periods without any of the herbal remedies she said we may have to try if my body didn’t respond to the needles, but I did! She makes the acupuncture process SO relaxing I leave there feeling so relaxed like a new woman! I trust Anna can heal any sort of issue with her expertise in Chinese medicine. I would recommend her to everyone!

I’ve been seeing Anna since the October, 2015 for very severe menopausal hot flashes.

Almost three years ago I stopped taking Bio-identical Hormones because I had a feeling that by relying so heavily on having to always increase the dosage, my body was stopping to produce its own hormones. I tried to deal with the hot flashes myself by taking different supplements, herbs, homeopathy, etc., but it was getting worse. I was getting drenched with sweat and heat every 30-40 minutes, and then right after that I was shivering with cold. I couldn’t wear anything heavier than tank tops, jeans, and a light sweater that was constantly on and off because by that time I actually felt like there is an internal sauna inside me with additional, severe hot flashes on top of it. I couldn’t wear any makeup (even the lightest one) because everything was just melting off my face. I couldn’t wear my hair down, because even this felt too hot for me. I always had to have a fan in my purse or somewhere near me and a small spray bottle with water. The hot flashes were terribly interfering with my life. I stopped going out and was barely socializing because I was always feeling tragically uncomfortable. I just couldn’t function well anymore.
I knew I had to do something and I wanted it to be in a natural way.

So I found Anna through the Internet and my healing journey started.
After the very first treatment, I woke up in the morning without one drop of sweat on my body or the bed sheets. It was heaven!!! MY HOT FLASHES WERE REDUCED TO 50% — AFTER THE FIRST TREATMENT!!! Needles to say, I was sold. Now there is only 5% left to completion– I am extremely pleased with the results.

Anna is simply amazing. The Balance Method she has mastered is different from other acupuncture styles, and I actually love that I don’t have to undress for the treatment because this method calls for using needless in arms/ hands (from elbow down), and legs from knees down — wow!

I love coming to Anna’s clinic. It’s so peaceful there. Anna herself has a lovely and sweet disposition, always treating her patients with great care and devotion. It’s so obvious, she loves what she’s doing.

What an amazing and highly skilled Acupuncture Physician Anna is!!!
I’m so grateful and happy I found her. I only wish I’d come sooner!
Thank you Anna!

Anna has always been caring, professional and positive! I had never been to an acupuncturist before going to her, and was a little nervous.  She settled my nerves and was exceptionally kind and knowledgable.  My husband and I had been trying for years to have a baby.  With Anna’s help – I’m now halfway through my first pregnancy!

The best acupuncturist.

Anna is very knowledgeable, she is very caring and really wants to help people get better. Her prices are very reasonable, I did a lot of
research and looked at different counties for an acupuncture location.

I have recommended her to all my friends, family and holistic professors. She is amazing and I feel blessed God placed her in our path.

Thanks to her we will welcome our first baby.

I have been going to Anna for few months now for neck and shoulder problem and the results so far are amazing. I am extremely happy with the treatment I received so far, and the best thing I like about Anna is that she is very honest, she cares about her patients and she truly wants them to get better. When I had the consultation with her she explained to me the treatment and how many sessions I need. Anna is professional, sweet and kind, I am so glad that I found her.

I started seeing Anna in August 2015. I was having severe hormonal imbalances causing me to have insomnia, anxiety and depression. I would get insane sugar cravings during any kind of stress including driving to and from work. At the recommendation of a friend (whom also sees Anna), I decided to give acupuncture a try for the first time. Anna explained how hormonal imbalances are causing all these uncomfortable symptoms and with treatment she could help me feel normal again. I was not completely sold, but I thought: why not? At this point I will try anything except medication! I didn’t want to go that route. Honestly, I kinda thought acupuncture was just for headaches or body pains and not for my type of symptoms. I didn’t really believe it would work, but I gave it a try anyway. I remember leaving that first day thinking that it was totally strange to zone out on a bed for an hour while having needles in my arms, legs, ears, forehead, head and neck. They didn’t hurt or anything. Just a nice long nap. Anna was very professional and caring during our consultation and then treatment, but I still remember thinking that it just seemed like hocus pocus and that this couldn’t possibly work on my problems. So I left and didn’t think I would likely return again. At least I tried it once, right? Then in just 24 hours I got a major response. A rush of peace spread over me like a wave of endorphins and I wasn’t craving sugar or feeling emotionally overwhelmed. I had extreme confidence in myself and a sense of well being. Is this for real? How did she do that? I felt so good that I knew I had to return and make sure it was actually the acupuncture and not a fluke. Every time I walk out of there, I know in a day or two I will experience this sensational feeling. To heal the body of years of hormonal imbalance takes time. I understand that. I also know that I was fortunate to respond so quickly on the first treatment. Usually this can take a few treatments for others to see results. But you will see results.  So I am now dedicated to healing my body slowly and patiently through acupuncture. I’m sure everyone heals at a different pace, but for me this worked rather quickly. You don’t have to believe in it for it to work. Just be open to the possibility. Everything about my life has gotten better since I met Anna last year. Everyone I come across has noticed how vibrant and healthy I am now. People comment on my glowing skin and positive energy all the time. I tell them about Anna and I now have referred several friends and acquaintances to her and they report similar results. Make sure you bring your headphones! This is very relaxing for most people, so sometimes you may hear other patient’s snoring. I like to listen to meditation music or an audible book to drown out those occasional sounds. Anna literally is magic. She really is an incredible healer. Give her a chance and I know you won’t regret it! ***also she often offers monthly specials for repeat customers to make it even more affordable so u can go more frequently and continue feeling fantastic. You are worth it!

Anna is amazing!! I first came to Anna with severe back pain from a car accident I was in. I had tried physical therapy and chiropractic care and neither worked. After my first treatment with her I could already feel a huge difference. A couple months later my back was pain free and stayed pain free. I am a massage therapist and I use my body a lot so it was great to be able to do my job and not feel back pain after my day was over. Six months later I fell down my stars and threw my back out and was in excruciating pain. I went to see her the next day and again felt instant relief by my second treatment I was back to normal again. I believe the second time I was able to heal so quickly was from all the previous work we had accomplished from my car accident and that I saw her first instead of going to physical therapy or chiropractic care. Anna surrounds herself with an amazing healing energy that you can feel as soon as you walk in the door. She has a passion for healing that is hard to find. If your in pain like I was then Anna is the acupuncturist YOU NEED!!!!

I echo most of the reviewers and Anna’s patients here in saying that Anna is a wonderful, caring, professional, and highly competent acupuncturist in the OC area. Last September I was experiencing excruciating shoulder pain that might have resulted from chronic bad posture and overextension from weight training. I was in sharp pains and could not move out of bed. I arrived at Anna’s office in tears after she squeezed me into her busy schedule due to the severity and urgency of my situation. She was able to quickly asses my conditions and began her treatment. It is important to understand that most pains, especially chronic ones, require several intensive sessions of treatment before any observable changes can happen. My pain started to become more tolerable after the second treatment. I continued treatment with Anna at a twice a week to once a week frequency, each time about 1 hour to 1.5 hours (as she graciously encouraged me to stay as long as her schedule allowed for the needles to penetrate more deeply into the points), for 8 treatments in total. During this time, because I was dealing with a severe back pain, my immune system was down and I caught a bad cold. Anna was able to integrate both treatments of shoulder pain and my horrible coughs and shortened the length of time it required for me to recover from the cold.
There are many different approaches to acupuncture, and Anna practices Dr. Tan’s method in which the practitioner does not insert needles directly into the spots of pain. Instead, the practitioner, with their understanding and appreciation of the holistic nature of the human body, utilizes needles in different parts of the body in a corresponding and balanced way. I am not a professional in acupuncture, but I am a mental health practitioner and I appreciate Anna’s approach, professionalism, and genuine care for her expertise and her patients. I also appreciate that she takes efforts to do a thorough initial consultation/assessment before starting her treatment with a new patient, as this is extremely crucial for any kind of healthcare profession to remain ethical and effective. Anna also maintains an open communication with her patients, and does not hesitate to modify her treatments based on the patient’s needs. I highly recommend Anna and encourage potential customers to give her a try, with understanding that the more severe or chronic pains will definitely take a longer time before healing becomes noticeable. No magic pills are dispensed here, and that is not what Anna is offering. What she offers is patient, consistent, and genuine care that can go a long way when needed.

I have been going to Anna for over a year now and I consider her to be a miracle worker. I have never been to an acupuncturist before and didn’t know what to expect but from the very first treatment I had with her, I felt better. When I first met Anna, I had terrible insomnia and anxiety from trauma I had experienced two years before. Anna, with her treatments, cured my anxiety and I now sleep very well at night. I had been to many doctors who were unable to do what Anna did. She is truly an expert in the field she is in. Anna is also very professional, honest and courteous. She has also greeted me with a smile and a hug and is warm and caring to everyone she treats. She is highly professional and very skilled at what she does. She is an expert in the field of acupuncture and I would highly recommend her to anyone I meet.

I’m normally not an actual Yelp reviewer, but I use the reviews to base my decision on which business I choose. But I felt strongly to give my review on Anna and her acupuncture business. Anna is the best acupuncturist I’ve ever been to!! She truly cares about her patients! My husband and I came to her about 6 years ago, since we were having problems with infertility. We’ve went through the typical Western methods with drugs and other treatments and unfortunately were unsuccessful. I found Anna using Yelp and after a quick phone conversation, I felt an immediate connection with her. She was very forthcoming in our first meeting, telling me our problems were not going to be cured overnight, but with weekly treatments and dedication, we could conceive naturally. Well lo and behold, 4 months later, I was pregnant. It wasn’t an easy process, but Anna was there for us with any questions. She also helped us through the pregnancy and I never suffered any morning sickness. We now have a rambunctious 4 1/2 year old daughter! She is the love of our life. Thanks to Anna, she is truly a blessing.

I have been treated by several other acupuncturists and Anna is by FAR the best! She is extremely thorough and truly cares about helping you graduate from your pain. I have seen her for a range of things from pregnancy related issues, back pain, and cold/flu relief. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Simply put Anna Dolopo and her Elements in Harmony treatment program worked for me and cured my plantar fasciitis when neither an Orthopedist or physical therapy could. For over 25 years I was a daily runner. Several – 1/2 marathons and Hood to Coast relay race in Oregon twice. Many years ago I suffered from this very painful injury and had to stop running for about 2 years. Over time it slowly got better with the help of steroid injections and very limiter sports activities. When I was hit with plantar fasciitis again, I took the usual route of Orthopod and a dozen physical therapy treatments. Nothing helped. I could barely walk. My foot was so painful. I was in constant pain. Each morning was spent limping everywhere. I suffered for 8-9 months with no improvement.

My daughter, also a runner, suggested acupuncture.

I found Anna Dolopo via the Internet and decided “what the heck, nothing to lose.”

Within the first 4-6 treatments I was getting Relief from the constant pain in my foot.

Anna was incredibly generous with her time and expertise. Always going above and beyond what you would ever expect from a healthcare professional. Never was I rushed-actually quite the opposite. Anna had my healing as her only focus. Within 12-15 treatments my pain was eliminated. Strangely it took about 2 days after each of my sessions to feel the improvement. Each treatment brought me closer to being pain free.

Anna always gave me the BEST treatment and care.
I am now pain free thanks to Anna.

Again, Simply put, she is the best. You can trust Anna to help you.
I give very few reviews, but in this case, it’s well deserved. Anna earned my respect and gratitude.

Anna is an angel from God. I feel truly blessed for being her patient. She is the most caring, loving, trusting and knowledgeable person I have met in Chinese medicine. She treats each and every one of her patients with outmost care, love and respect. She treated my bipolar as well as my chronic depression and today, I am a better and healthier person because of her. I can’t thank her enough for what she has done for me. Anna ROCKS!

I recently resumed my treatments with Anna to treat hormone issues I have been having where nothing else has worked and am extremely satisfied and grateful for the treatments I have received from her.

Anna is always so sweet, professional, and in the best spirits doing everything she can to accommodate me during my treatments and make sure I am comfortable. She’s very knowledgeable on the topic of female hormones, fertility, and periods (among other things) and educated me about my specific issues and how acupuncture works, warning me that things may take time to improve as with anything else however the day after my sessions I always feel great as I go through my day – calm and less stressed than usual.

I highly recommend Anna if you’re considering acupuncture!

I have been seeing Anna for several years. She is very caring and makes sure you are as comfortable as you can be with needles sticking out of you:).

She has treated me for everything from stomach problems, yeast infections and immune boosting. My 17 year old daughter saw her recently for a year long recurrent yeast infection that nothing was curing. My daughter is deathly afraid of needles so when she agreed to see Anna I knew she was at her wits end. Not only did Anna’s one treatment cure the infection (it has been months and no recurrence) but also my daughter said she would go again.

The other thing I really like is the family vibe at her office. If you are lucky you may greeted by her sweet daughters or her even sweeter dog. It is such a warm environment that you feel more like you are visiting a friend then an acupuncture office.

Anna is actually my third acupuncturist and I plan on her being my last.

I have searched high and low for alternative therapies.  Acupuncture is one of them and Elements in Harmony embraces the traditional elements of the art.  I would never go into an appointment of a new acupuncturist without an initial consult, it is mind, body and soul that connects your therapist to what you need to focus on to repair and healing of your body and mind.

I love there is no time limit to your appointment here, your body is done when your body is done… the more time the needles are in, the better the treatment.

I am so appreciative for Anna and her dedication of the art.

For those who are surfing reviews, remember, do check the credibility of each persons page and reviews.   It is shocking when you see how many friends a person has, how many reviews they have, how many stars they dish out to establishments  and how honest the reviews really seem verses just a place to complain.  There are many patrons that abuse yelp… make sure you are able to weed them out so you don’t miss out on something that could be great.  And this establishment is great.

I started with Anna a couple months ago with a friend’s recommendation. I had never had Acupuncture before and did not know what to expect …in fact I was objective and made no expectations. I have always had difficulty sleeping and that was my prime concern, though Anna mentioned that she could help my small rotator cuff tear also. Again I did not expect anything. I went with the recommendation of aggressive treatments twice a week and was so surprised that my sleep cycle had me waking up at 7:30 am on a Saturday morning and feeling sleepy at nine 930pm.. This was unheard of for me and I found myself having much more time to be productive. Then it occurred to me I didn’t feel my shoulder pain at night as I usually did. She was always very professional. It was always quiet. Everyone seemed to be courteous of each other. Positive experience for me …I’ll be going back.

Dr. Tan Gold Level Certified Balance Method Acupuncturist

BAZI Practitioner – Dr. Tan Graduate

Serving Southern California since 1999

3 cases: Fibroids, Anxiety, Midback pain

April 25th, 2013
Positive impacts on our patients’ health

as of April 19, 2013

Update on one of my patients with fibroids:
44 treatments since May 3, 2012:

Patient is also on Chinese herbs (2-3 formulas a month).

Severe menstrual cramps have decreased to a level 1-2 (1-10 scale; 10 being highest).

Severe bloating has decreased to a level 1.

Mood is so much better than when she first started. She used to be extremely impatient and easily irritable.

Clots have decreased in size by 75%.

Menstrual cramps have decreased by up to 75%. “This last period was the best that she has ever had since her acupuncture treatments started.”

The patient’s severe menstrual cramps were so much improved that:

1. She didn’t have to lie on her side and put a pillow between her knees.
2. She had absolutely no lower back pain (first time ever)!!!
3. She didn’t have to stop cooking half-way through and lie down.
4. She didn’t call in sick to work and she totally felt fine enough to work through her entire menses.
5. Her constipation was tolerable.
6. No pain during intercourse.

This is one of my patients with fibroids who had surgery in the past for fibroids and has opted to not go through it again. Instead, she decided to go the “natural route” this time, so that she can go to the root of the problem.  She feels that the surgery did not treat the root of the problem because the fibroids came back.

44 treatments, some Chinese herbs, no invasive treatment, a better mood than she ever had in the past, stronger health overall and menstrual health, I can assure you that the patient is tremendously happy.

My happy patients = a very happy practitioner.

Update on my patient with anxiety:

He first started on 12/10/12.
After 17 treatments and about 3 bottles of Chinese herbal formulas specifically for anxiety, my patient feels an overall improvement of 80%.

The patient is a 28-year old male who had been suffering from severe anxiety for over 15 years. He was prozac for 4 years until 5 years ago. The patient also presented with acne.

Today during his 17th acupuncture treatment, the patient stated that he felt 100% improvement for 1+ week since our last treatment on 3/28. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest level of anxiety), his overall anxiety is at a level 3. He started with an 8. His anxiety returned last Monday 5 minutes before a major professional examination. Until that moment, he was feeling 100% better most of the time.

The patient informed me that when he did take Prozac, he only felt up to 25% improvement during those 4 years of medication. He stopped the medication because he did not feel significant improvement.

With acupuncture and Chinese herbs, the patient’s sleep has improved significantly. He sleeps through the night and he has stayed calm despite intense studying and preparation for his examination. According to the patient, he prefers the 80% improvement with Chinese medicine over a course of 4 months as opposed to the 25% improvement with Prozac over a course of 4 years.

Another note of improvement is that the patient’s acne is significantly diminished. His wife has commented on his overall mood and skin improvement.

This is another terrific example of the POWERS of Dr. Tan’s Balance Method and the APPROPRIATE Chinese herbal formula at work with a severe case of anxiety and insomnia.

Update on my patient with pain in the midback:

After one treatment, one of my military patients is able to sleep all night without any pain. He has been sleeping pain-free for the past 3 days. Overall 20% improved with just one treatment. Patient is very happy. He hadn’t slept without pain for over 3 months. Today’s his second treatment and he felt even more improvement.
Patient complained having “constant pain in all activities” during his first visit. Now his pain is intermittent and he has confidence that he will be another patient at our healing center who will GRADUATE from pain and suffering. He doesn’t want to live on Norco any longer. According to the patient, Norco causes him to feel drowsy, makes it difficult for him to focus, causes him to feel nauseous and it “messes him up” whenever he takes it. This patient has found true relief with the POWERS of Dr. Tan’s Balance Method acupuncture!

Acupuncture for Integrative Oncology Support

There have been many advances in the early detection and treatment of cancer. While the standard medical care for cancer can be effective, the treatments are aggressive and cause numerous unwanted side effects in addition to a lowered immune system. Acupuncture has received much attention as an adjunctive therapy in cancer treatments addressing many of the symptoms and side effects that come up during and after chemotherapy, radiation, biological therapy and surgery.

How Does Acupuncture Help?

According to the National Cancer Institute, acupuncture may cause physical responses in nerve cells, the pituitary gland, and parts of the brain. These responses can cause the body to release proteins, hormones, and brain chemicals that govern a number of body functions. It is proposed that, by stimulating physical responses in these areas, acupuncture positively affects blood pressure and body temperature, boosts immune system activity, and causes the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins, to be released.

Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health care and is particularly useful in providing pain relief, reducing the impact of side effects, accelerating recovery and improving overall quality of life.

Areas where acupuncture has provided the most help include:

  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Dry Mouth, Night Sweats and Hot Flashes
  • Stress, Anxiety and Fatigue
  • Pain Management
  • Increasing White Blood Cell Count
  • Relieving Nausea and Vomiting

    The strongest evidence of the beneficial effect of acupuncture has come from clinical trials on its use for relieving nausea and vomiting. Several types of clinical trials using different acupuncture methods showed acupuncture reduced nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, surgery and morning sickness.

    Boosting the Immune System

    Human studies on the effect of acupuncture on the immune system of cancer patients showed that it improved immune system response, including increasing the number of white blood cells.

    Improving Pain Management

    In clinical studies, acupuncture reduced the pain levels for some cancer patients. In one study, most of the patients treated with acupuncture were able to stop taking drugs for pain relief or to reduce their doses.

    To learn more about how acupuncture can safely and effectively be incorporated into an oncology treatment plan call for a consultation today.

    Endorsement of Acupuncture for Cancer Treatment

    Acupuncture continues to receive enthusiastic testimonials from patients and health care professionals alike. Prominent names in U.S. society and the medical community have attested to the efficacy of acupuncture as a supportive therapy for oncology treatment.

  • Dr. Oz has said that acupuncture is helpful for reducing the side effects of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation including pain, nausea, fatigue, hot flashes and dry mouth.
  • When singer Sheryl Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer, she underwent a lumpectomy followed by radiation. During these treatments she also received acupuncture and drank herbal teas.
  • Former First Lady of Chicago, Maggie Daley, gave generously to help open the Maggie Daley Center for Women’s Cancer Care at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The center includes acupuncture as an option for the patients.
  • Many people are finding out that, although the treatments necessary to defeat cancer can be traumatizing and debilitating, they can get some relief through acupuncture.

    Clinical Trials Indicate Acupuncture Provides Relief

    The American Cancer Society has reported that half of all men and a third of all women in the United States will develop cancer during their lifetimes. Although there are many forms of cancer, all forms of the disease begin with abnormal cells that grow out of control.

    Unlike other illnesses that are eradicated by the body’s natural defense system, cancer needs to be treated with powerful medical interventions. Unfortunately, most of the current cancer treatments available have some debilitating side effects. This is where acupuncture can provide real help, by decreasing many of the side effects associated with conventional cancer treatments.

    Clinical trials have examined the effects of acupuncture on cancer and the symptoms caused by cancer treatment, including weight loss, cough, chest pain, fever, anxiety, depression, night sweats, hot flashes, dry mouth, speech problems and fluid retention in the arms or legs. Studies have shown that, for many patients, treatment with acupuncture either relieves symptoms or keeps them from getting worse.

    Relieves Pain and Stiffness during Hormone Therapy

    In 2010, The Journal of Clinical Oncology published the results of a small study that concluded that acupuncture helped relieve pain and stiffness in breast cancer patients who were simultaneously being treated with hormone therapies.

    Minimizes Dry Mouth

    In 2009, the medical journal Head and Neck reported the results of a pilot study done at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The subjects were people suffering from head and neck cancer. The authors concluded, “This pilot study demonstrates that acupuncture can improve the subjective symptoms of dry mouth in patients with radiation-induced xerostomia as early as two weeks after starting treatment, and the benefits can remain at least one month after treatment ends,” Dr. Mark Chambers told Reuters Health.

    Reduces Pain and Shoulder Dysfunction

    In 2008, Dr. David Pfister, chief of the head and neck medical oncology service at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting in Chicago. He reported that patients found significant reductions in both dry mouth and pain and shoulder dysfunction after neck dissection with the help of acupuncture. “Although further studies are needed, this does support the potential role of acupuncture,” said Pfister.

    Reduces Hot Flashes

    Cancer Prevention in Every Aisle

    Nearly everything in the produce aisle can help you prevent cancer, but there are items throughout the supermarket that can protect your health and the health of your family.

    Produce Aisle Picks

    Cantaloupe – A great source of carotenoids, plant chemicals that act as antioxidants shown to reduce the risk of lung cancer.

    Kale and Cabbage – Cruciferous vegetables are widely considered to be one of the healthiest food choices you can make. Included in this family of vegetables are broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, brussels sprouts, kale, cabbage and bok choy. Cruciferous vegetables are high in vitamins, fiber, and potent anti-cancer phytochemicals.

    According to the American Institute for Cancer, there is solid evidence that links cruciferous vegetables and protection against cancer. Studies have shown that this vegetable group has the ability to stop the growth of cancer cells for tumors in the breast, uterine lining, lung, colon, liver and cervix. Studies that track the diets of people over time have found that diets high in cruciferous vegetables are linked to lower rates of prostate cancer among men.

    It is recommended that we eat 3-5 servings of cruciferous vegetables per week. It’s best to eat these veggies raw or only lightly steamed so they retain their cancer fighting phytochemicals.

    Freezer Aisle Pick

    Edamame (soybeans) – These cancer-fighting beans contain phytoestrogens, that may help prevent estrogen-driven cancers by binding to estrogen receptors. They are also good for the men of the household since evidence suggests the isoflavones found in soy products may help fight prostate cancer.

    Cereal Aisle Pick

    Whole Grains – Oats have the highest proportion of soluble fiber of any grain. Fiber is rich in antioxidants, helps fight colon cancer, and the phenolic compounds in whole grains may help reduce the risk of certain gastrointestinal cancers. Pick cereals high in folate, fiber and/or flaxseed.

    Beverage Aisle Picks

    Orange Juice – This favorite breakfast beverage is a powerful source of folate which has been linked to lowered risk for gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancers.

    Green Tea – Lower in caffeine than coffee, it is rich in antioxidants that can help prevent prostate cancer and possibly bladder cancer.

    Pomegranate Juice – Extremely antioxidant-rich, this juice helps prevent colon and prostate cancer.

    Soy Milk – Made from soy beans, soy milk works the same way as edamame to fight cancer.

    Household Aisle Picks

    Sunscreen ? Lather on the SPF each and every time you go out in the sun to block exposure to ultraviolet rays.

    Manage Your Reproductive Health with Acupuncture

    Oriental medicine has a long history when it comes to enhancing reproductive health and fertility for both men and women. In fact, evidence that acupuncture and herbal medicine have been used to aid fertility can be found in early medical literature dating back to 3 AD.

    Statistics state that one in five couples over the age of 30 have difficulty conceiving after one year of trying. Many of these couples are turning to acupuncture and Oriental medicine for a safe, effective and natural solution to have a healthy baby.

    Fertility treatments were first recorded by Zhang Zhong Jing, a famous physician from the Han Dynasty, in his discussion of diseases in women in the Jin Gui Yao Lue or Essentials of the Golden Cabinet.

    According to the principles of Oriental medicine, a person’s health is determined by the quality of Qi, the vital life energy, and blood circulating through the body. When Qi and blood are circulating properly, the body is properly nourished and functioning optimally which, in turn, enhances fertility.

    Researchers have confirmed the benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine for:

      * regulating the menstrual cycle
      * improving sperm count and motility
      * reducing stress and anxiety associated with infertility
      * normalizing hormone and endocrine systems
      * improving blood flow in the uterus
      * decreasing the chance of miscarriage
      * increasing the chance of pregnancy for women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF)

    Fertility treatment approaches can vary from person to person, but are usually scheduled for at least three consecutive cycles (twelve weeks). Treatments can include acupuncture, customized herbal therapy, stress reduction and dietary counseling.

    If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulties with their reproductive health please call to see how acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help.

    Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

    Gynecological conditions including premenstrual syndrome (PMS), fibroids, endometriosis, menopause and infertility are some of the problems treated most successfully by acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Oriental medicine has long recognized that health and vitality can be sustained over a woman’s lifetime by restoring balance within the body and supporting the natural production of essential hormones.

    Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

    Premenstrual syndrome covers a broad spectrum that can include emotional symptoms such as depression, irritability, sadness, anxiety, or poor concentration and can also include physical symptoms, such as breast tenderness, a change in bowel habits, acne, or loss of libido. Symptoms can change from month to month and vary widely in terms of severity. Imbalances can arise from a variety of factors, including poor diet, too much work, physical or emotional trauma, constitutionally weak Qi (energy) or stress.

    In Oriental medicine, the liver is considered responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (life force) throughout the body and for smoothing our emotions. When the liver’s function of moving Qi is disrupted, Qi can become stuck. This is referred to as Liver Qi Stagnation and is commonly associated with PMS. In addition to irritability and moodiness, signs and symptoms may include: distending pain in the area below the ribs, stuffiness of the chest, sighing, abdominal distention, nausea, sour regurgitation, belching, diarrhea or constipation, feeling of a lump in the throat, irregular periods, painful periods and distention of the breasts prior to periods.

    If you or someone you know is struggling with symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome call today to see how acupuncture can help!

    Pregnancy & Childbirth

    Pregnancy is an amazing time in a woman’s life. Many women report feeling healthier than they have ever felt before; however, the physical growth of the baby and changes in hormone levels can bring about pain, discomfort and a variety of health problems.

    Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can provide a safe, effective alternative for many of the health complications that may arise before, during and after pregnancy. A growing number of women are choosing acupuncture to manage their health throughout their pregnancy and as an optional treatment for an overdue or difficult labor.

    Planning for a Healthy Baby

    Healthy parents produce healthy babies. With acupuncture and Oriental medicine, parents can improve their health to create the most optimal environment for their unborn child. In addition to their ability to strengthen, support, and balance overall health and well-being, acupuncture and Oriental medicine are effective treatments for regulating menstruation and hormone levels, reducing stress and addressing any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns.

    Acupuncture during Pregnancy

    Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can play a vital role in the comfort of a pregnant woman. There is strong evidence to support the belief that acupuncture is highly effective in treating some of the most common problems experienced during pregnancy.

    Some of the problems that an acupuncturist often treats during pregnancy include:

      * nausea, vomiting and morning sickness
      * heartburn
      * constipation
      * edema and swelling
      * pelvic pain
      * neck and back pain
      * sciatica
      * leg cramps
      * fatigue and exhaustion
      * insomnia
      * anxiety and depression
      * water retention

    Acupuncture for Childbirth

    While there are acupuncture points that can provide natural pain relief during labor, acupuncture is more commonly used to induce labor. There are several points that stimulate contractions and influence cervical ripening. There is also an acupuncture point that has been found to turn a breech baby.

    Postpartum Recovery

    Many women feel depleted after the birth experience. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help smooth the transition during those first few months after birth to ensure a quick recovery.

    Some postpartum disorders that can be treated with acupuncture:

      * fatigue
      * postpartum depression
      * mastitis
      * insufficient or excessive lactation
      * post-operative healing
      * night sweats

    Postpartum care focuses on the physical, emotional and psychological recovery of the mother from the effects of pregnancy and labor, as well as encouraging breast feeding.

    If you would like learn how acupuncture and Oriental medicine can facilitate your postpartum recovery, please call for more information.

    Male Reproductive Health

    Oriental medicine can help treat various male disorders. As men age a decrease in the function of male reproductive organs occurs and they experience andropause, or male menopause. Andropause differs from menopause as there is not a dramatic or marked physiological change.

    Unlike the more dramatic reproductive hormone plunge that occurs in women during menopause, changes in men occur gradually over a period of many years.

    Some male reproductive health conditions that acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help include:

      * premature ejaculation
      * low sperm count
      * diminished motility
      * impotence
      * hernias
      * testicular pain
      * prostatitis
      * male infertility
      * andropause

    If you or someone you know is struggling with symptoms associated with any of these conditions, call today!

    Prostate Health

    The prostate is prone to enlargement and inflammation as men age, affecting about half of men in their sixties and up to ninety percent of men as they approach their seventies and eighties. If left untreated, benign prostate gland enlargement, which presents with symptoms such as frequent nighttime urination, painful urination, and difficult urination, can lead to more serious conditions such as prostate cancer, urinary tract infections, bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones, and incontinence.

    Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can be used to treat prostate problems to relieve the urinary symptoms and prevent more serious conditions from occurring. The few studies completed on acupuncture and prostatitis show positive results with participants noticing a marked improvement in their quality of life, a decrease in urinary difficulties and an increase in urinary function.

    Call today to see how acupuncture can improve your prostate health!

    Menopause

    Menopause is a transitional period marking the cessation of ovulation in a woman’s body. Symptoms are brought on as a woman’s body tries to adapt to decreasing amounts of estrogen. Varying from mild to severe, symptoms can include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, memory loss, dryness, headaches, joint pain and weight gain.

    With its deep understanding of the female body, Oriental medicine has always addressed the special needs of women throughout their lives. Menopause, in particular, is an area in which Oriental medicine shines.

    Acupuncture and Oriental medicine have the ability to detect energetic changes that occur in the body and quickly relieve uncomfortable symptoms that accompany the onset of menopause.

    Oriental medicine does not recognize menopause as a particular syndrome and treats symptoms unique to each individual using a variety of techniques to restore imbalances found in the body.

    Acupuncture in Cancer Treatment

    There have been many advances in the early detection and treatment of cancer. While the standard medical care for cancer is effective, the treatments are aggressive and cause numerous unwanted side effects as well as a lowered immune system. Acupuncture has received much attention as an adjunctive therapy in cancer treatments for its use in pain relief, reducing side effects, accelerating recovery and improving quality of life.

    What Acupuncture is used for during Cancer Treatment

    Acupuncture provides a total approach to health care for people with cancer. It can be used to address many of the concerns that come up during and after chemotherapy, radiation, biological therapy and surgery.

    According to the National Cancer Institute, acupuncture may cause physical responses in nerve cells, the pituitary gland, and parts of the brain. These responses can cause the body to release proteins, hormones, and brain chemicals that control a number of body functions. It is proposed that, by these actions, acupuncture affects blood pressure and body temperature, boosts immune system activity, and causes the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins, to be released.

    Areas that acupuncture has shown the most promise include:

  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Dry Mouth, Night Sweats and Hot Flashes
  • Stress, Anxiety and Fatigue
  • Pain Management
  • Increasing White Blood Cell Count
  • Nausea and Vomiting

    The strongest evidence of the effect of acupuncture has come from clinical trials on the use of acupuncture to relieve nausea and vomiting. Several types of clinical trials using different acupuncture methods showed acupuncture reduced nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, surgery, and morning sickness. It appears to be more effective in preventing vomiting than in reducing nausea.

    Other symptoms caused by cancer treatment

    Clinical trials are studying the effects of acupuncture on cancer and symptoms caused by cancer treatment, including weight loss, cough, chest pain, fever, anxiety, depression, night sweats, hot flashes, dry mouth, speech problems, and fluid in the arms or legs. Studies have shown that, for many patients, treatment with acupuncture either relieves symptoms or keeps them from getting worse.

    Boosting the Immune System

    Human studies on the effect of acupuncture on the immune system of cancer patients showed that it improved immune system response, including increasing the number of white blood cells.

    Pain Management

    In clinical studies, acupuncture reduced the amount of pain in some cancer patients. In one study, most of the patients treated with acupuncture were able to stop taking drugs for pain relief or to take smaller doses.

    Acupuncture is also very useful for support if you are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or hormonal therapy. Because chemotherapy and radiation therapy weaken the body’s immune system, a strict clean needle method must be used when acupuncture treatment is given to cancer patients.

    To learn more about how acupuncture can safely and effectively be incorporated into care for people with cancer, please call for a consultation today.

    New Lung Cancer Guidelines Include Acupuncture

    Acupuncture is now officially recommended for lung cancer patients experiencing fatigue, dyspnea, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, pain, nausea and vomiting.

    Evidence-based guidelines published by the American College of Chest Physicians recommend acupuncture for lung cancer patients experiencing fatigue, dyspnea, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, or to soothe symptoms of pain or nausea and vomiting.

    The new edition of these standard guidelines represents the first time complementary and integrative medicine has been addressed in the prevention and treatment of lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States, causing more fatalities than the next four most common types of cancer combined.

    The new guidelines were developed and reviewed by 100 multidisciplinary panel members and have been endorsed by the American Association for Bronchology, American Association for Thoracic Surgery, American College of Surgeons Oncology Group, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Asian Pacific Society of Respirology, Oncology Nurses Society, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the World Association of Bronchology.

    Create Lasting Resolve to Reach Your Goals with Acupuncture

    The start of the new year is a time of looking back at what we have achieved in the past year and looking forward to the future. This period of remembrance and resolution may be challenging but it is both productive and rewarding. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help achieve the change you seek as it assists in illness prevention, stress relief, minimizes aches and pains, improves energy and nurtures balance. This calm and clarity strengthens your resolve as you take the next step in achieving your goals.

    Here are a few ways that Acupuncture can help you achieve your goals:

    Lose Weight
    Losing weight is the most common New Year’s resolution. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help you reach your goal weight and maintain it by promoting better digestion, smoothing emotions, reducing appetite, improving metabolism, and eliminating food cravings–all of which can help energize the body, maximize absorption of nutrients, regulate elimination, control overeating, suppress the appetite and reduce anxiety.

    Get in Shape
    Renewed enthusiasm to exercise in order to enhance fitness levels, train for a competition, or lose weight can come at a painful price for those who try to do too much too quickly. Recent studies show that acupuncture effectively treats sports injuries such as strains, sprains, musculoskeletal pain, swollen muscles and shin splints.

    Eliminate Stress
    Stress reduction is always on the top ten list for New Year’s resolutions and for a good reason; it is often the cause of illness and deterioration of health. Numerous studies have demonstrated the substantial benefits of acupuncture in the treatment of stress, anxiety and lowering blood pressure. In addition to acupuncture, Oriental medicine offers a whole range of tools that can be integrated into your life to keep stress in check.

    Improved Quality of Life
    If pain is keeping you from living life to the fullest, acupuncture can help as it has no side effects and can be helpful for all types of pain, regardless of the cause or where it is located. Increasingly, people are looking for more natural approaches to help relieve painful conditions instead of relying on medication. In addition to reducing pain, acupuncture also hastens the healing process by increasing circulation and attracting white blood cells to an injured area.

    Call today to see how Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine can help you keep your resolutions and prepare for the year ahead!

    Healthy Brain Habits

    Keeping the goals we have set for ourselves in addition to outlining and completing the tasks needed to accomplish those goals can be overwhelming. Here are a few steps you can take to help optimize brain health and sharpen your memory:

    Eat More Produce – Studies that focus on food and memory show that the more produce you eat, the better. One 25-year Harvard Medical School study of more than 13,000 women showed that the participants who ate relatively high amounts of vegetables over the years had less age-related decline in memory. Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, and leafy green vegetables had the biggest effect on helping women retain their memory during the course of the study. In another study, the phytochemicals, anthocyanin (found in berries of all colors and cherries) and quercetin (found in onions, kale and apples), actually reversed some of the age-related memory deficits in laboratory animals.

    Take Care of Your Heart – A healthy heart makes for a healthy brain. Because oxygen and nutrients are carried in the blood stream, anything that impedes blood flow will starve those all-important brain cells. Review your blood pressure and cholesterol level. Know your numbers and if they are elevated, take immediate measures to bring them down.

    Get a Good Night’s Sleep -When we sleep, the brain has time to recharge. Studies show that 7-8 hours of sleep a night helps to strengthen memory. Practicing good sleep habits helps keep the brain and the rest of the body functioning at its best.

    Exercise – Regular physical activity has been shown to decrease the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by about half. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and helps regulate blood sugar levels, both of which improve brain function and memory. Aim for 30 minutes a day.

    Challenge Your Brain – Keep your mind active and challenged. Brain function decreases with age. Studies show that cognitive exercise can improve blood flow to the brain. Spend at least 15 minutes each day on a mental exercise such as a crossword puzzle, journaling or learning a new language in order to slow memory loss.

    Mental Clarity Boost

    Feeling a little foggy? Having trouble concentrating?

    Massage acupuncture point Du 20 for some mental clarity.

    Du 20 is located on top of the head, midway between the ears. It is used to clear the mind and improve focus.

    Stimulate the point with your index finger 35-40 seconds for a quick “brain boost.”

    The Will Power Connection

    Is there a body/mind connection to will power?

    According to the principles of Acupuncture and Oriental medicine there is. Will power, or “Zhi,” is said to reside in the kidneys and the state of the Kidney Qi directly correlates to the fortitude of our will power.

    In Oriental medicine, disease prevention begins with a protective layer around the exterior of the body called wei qi, or defensive energy. If you catch colds easily, have low energy and require a long time recuperating from an illness, your wei qi may be deficient.

    Nourishing Qi can help greatly enhance the body’s ability to thrive in times of stress, aid in healing, prevent illness and increase vitality. According to Oriental medicine, recharging your battery and regeneration of vital energy, Qi, will help you live, look and feel your best!

    Alleviate Your Stress with Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

    As a normal part of life, stress enables us to get things done. If left unmanaged, stress can lead to emotional, psychological, and even physical problems. Stress causes a disruption in the flow of vital energy, or Qi, through the body. These energetic imbalances can throw off the immune system or cause symptoms of pain, sleep disturbances, abnormal digestion, headaches, menstrual irregularities, aggravation of already troublesome health conditions and, over time, more serious illnesses can develop.

    Stressful situations that last over a long period of time can create an ongoing low-level stress that puts continual pressure on the nervous system, increasing activity, and can cause the overproduction of hormones. The extra stress hormones over an extended period of time may wear out the body’s reserves, lead to fatigue, depression, a weakened immune system, and a host of serious physical and psychological ailments.

    Some signs of stress overload include:

    - anxiety or panic attacks
    - feelings of constant pressure, hassled and hurried
    - irritability and moodiness
    - physical symptoms such as stomach problems, headaches, or even chest pain
    - allergic reactions, such as eczema or asthma
    - problems sleeping
    - overindulgence in food, alcohol, smoking, or drugs
    - sadness or depression

    Stress is often the cause of illness and the deterioration of health. Finding a release valve for your stress can help you stay healthy. According to Oriental medicine, stress, frustration, and unresolved anger can play an important part in throwing the immune system off and allowing pathogens to affect the body. Through acupuncture, these energy blockages can be addressed. Acupuncture points can help energy flow smoothly, and alleviate not only the symptoms of stress and anxiety, but the stress and anxiety itself.

    Numerous studies have demonstrated the substantial benefits of acupuncture in the treatment of stress. Acupuncture improves circulation of blood throughout the body, which oxygenates the tissues and cycles out cortisol and other waste chemicals. The calming nature of acupuncture also decreases heart rate, lowers blood pressure and relaxes the muscles.

    In addition to acupuncture, Oriental medicine offers a wide range of tools and techniques that can be integrated into your wellness plan to keep stress in check. These tools include Tui Na, Qi Gong exercises, dietary therapy, meditations and acupressure that you can administer at home.

    While it isn’t always possible to remove the external forces causing stress, the ability to effectively deal with stress is a choice. Take time for yourself to cultivate the energy you need to handle your stress more skillfully and effectively.

    If you or someone you know is experiencing stress or a stress related disorder, contact us for more information about how acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help you regain peace of mind, regulate your immune system and stay healthy and schedule an appointment today!

    Acupuncture Gives Hope to Patients with PTSD

    Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a severe type of anxiety disorder. PTSD results from a person witnessing or being involved in a traumatic event that causes intense fear, helplessness or horror, such as, a natural disaster, rape, childhood abuse, a tragic accident, or war. Signs and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder typically begin within three months of a traumatic event but can, in some instances, occur years after the event.

    Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder include:

    1. Intrusive memories – flashbacks and nightmares of events

    2. Avoidance and numbing – feeling emotionally numb, hopelessness about the future, avoiding anything that is a reminder of the precipitating event.

    3. Hyperarousal – increased anxiety, irritability or anger, self-destructive behavior (e.g., excessive drinking), and an exaggerated startle response (jumping at sounds)

    Acupuncture as Treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

    In the last couple of years, acupuncture, has been getting more attention as a treatment for PTSD, particularly from military and veterans since soldiers post combat are at a high risk for suffering from PTSD. The results from acupuncture are hopeful. Time and again, acupuncture has proven to be an effective modality for treating the symptoms of PTSD.

    Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB), a group that previously provided relief to the survivors of the earthquake in Haiti and hurricane in New Orleans, launched The Military Stress Recovery Project. This organization provides free acupuncture treatments for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as their families. Treated military personnel have reported improved mental clarity, less anxiety, and a reduction in stress.

    There are good precedents for the use of acupuncture to treat post-traumatic stress disorder. Walter Reed Medical Center, a military hospital, has begun to investigate acupuncture as a viable treatment for returning veterans.

    Researchers at the University of Louisville School of Medicine conducted a clinical trial examining the effects of acupuncture on the symptoms of PTSD. They analyzed depression, anxiety, and impairment in 73 people who had been diagnosed with PTSD and found that acupuncture provided treatment effects similar to group cognitive-behavioral therapy. Both acupuncture and cognitive-behavioral therapy were superior to the control group. Additionally, treatment effects of acupuncture and group therapy were maintained for 3 months after the end of treatment.

    Why does acupuncture help the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder? Correctly placed needles help the body re-regulate itself from the effects of stress, PTSD, depression and anxiety. In turn, this allows the individual to focus on their activities and enable them to deal with daily events.
